This week Nancy Pelosi (Minoriy Leader in the House; I like the sound of this!) said the following:
I think this debate is on a higher ground of our values. It’s not about money. It’s about the morality of what we’re doing.
We wonder why it is so difficult to balance the budget?
How could we possibly consider de-funding programs when we can’t pay for them? What is moral, Nancy, about spending $29,000 of taxpayers money on flowers as you did last year? Or Flying on private planes back and forth to San Francisco? Get with it woman!
Let’s talk morality here. Is it moral to saddle our children with debt they may never be able to repay? Is it moral to hand out other peoples money recklessly to folks who are happy to get it and will do nothing to stop taking that money? The CBO said recently that we have a ridiculous amount of duplication in entitlement programs (something over $100Billion/year easily) ; how moral is that as the population tries to make ends meet? Is it moral to have the government spend what they don’t have when the taxpayers can’t?
When the economy was healthy and the ridiculous spending in Washington did not hurt each of us as it does today, it wasn’t moral, but it did not matter nearly as much as it does today. Forget the corruption and mismanagement; let’s talk about the Constitution! Is there anything in the Constitution that says we must take money from some to give to others? What is moral about that, Nancy?
Watching what went on in Wisconsin demonstrated how ridiculous the gravy train has become. Folks demonstrated basically screaming that they wanted more money from us, the taxpayers! If the school system was private, these folks could still demonstrate, but they would be asking an employer for the money and benefits. If the employer could afford the increases, the teachers might get them. If not, they could walk and be replaced. No public employees; no public unions. Nice morality here; huh?
Momentum in D.C. is moving in the right direction, but as long as we have loons like Nancy and Harry there, the task will be daunting! Maybe what is moral is to not allow anyone to be re-elected. Then our representatives could vote for what is REALLY moral and smart, rather than vote for things that will get them re-elected!
My two cents; how ’bout yours?
