Boehner Should Recommend ‘Dancing on the Ceiling!’

Yet another ‘Sky is Falling’ event from the liberals in Washington; what a shock! Brilliant folks like Tim Geitner tells us all that if we don’t raise the debt ceiling, our reputation around the world will be destroyed and U.S. Dollars will be worthless. How can the dollar be damaged any more than this administration and the Federal Reserve have damaged it in the last two years? How can the fact that we promise NOT to borrow more hurt our credit?

Let’s take a household budget as an example and see what makes sense and what doesn’t; OK?

Mr. & Mrs. Jones have faced hard times and have maxed out their credit cards. Should they call up another charge card company and get some new credit? Or should they implement austerity measures and start paying off those credit cards? (I know this sounds silly, but this is D.C. after all!) Do you think their existing creditors would feel better about the Jones’ ability to repay if they get those new cards?

Better yet. The Jones go to see financial advisers for a way out of their mess. Do you think the financial wizard they go to see would recommend that they get some more credit to pay their bills and worry about their problems after the next election? Not likely!

The advice might be to stop wasting any money, tighten their belts, pay down their debts to reduce interest charges and get through their tough times. Maybe they would be advised to find new ways to get more money into the household. Maybe they could get their ‘Rich’ neighbors to give them some of their money; they don’t need it, do they? Again, this is likely not a viable solution. A second job, eliminate
useless spending, cut up the charge cards; these moves make better sense!

With the smart decisions behind them, the Jones family would eventually get back on their feet!

So Boehner and the G.O.P. House needs to tell the country and the world that we will NOT borrow any more money to keep this ridiculous gravy train going! They need to say set up a schedule that will pay down the debt, and whatever money is left over will be used to fund ‘Cowboy Poetry’ and whatever other ridiculous programs they wish to fund. The folks on the Hill can look at all the programs and either cut them out completely or fund them with whatever revenue is left after paying the interest and some principle on our debt. This is NOT A DIFFICULT TASK! You and I do this every month.

As RESPONSIBLE Americans, we get our bills in the mail, pay them as we can, and use whatever money that is left in a ‘Discretionary’ fashion. We don’t go to the movies then see if we have enough for the mortgage, do we?

After the General Accounting Office looked at 1/3 of government spending and determined that there was over $100Billion of duplicate programs in that 1/3, how can the jokers on the Hill threaten that the world is going to end if we don’t borrow more? How can Barack ask the so-called ‘Rich’ to kick in more, when government spending is Soooooooooooooo ridiculous?

How about another example?

Johnny asks his father for a dollar. His father obliges. Ten minutes later he asks for another. His father asks, ‘What happened to the first dollar ?’. ‘I gave it to Jimmy, he wanted it and I want him to be my friend’, the child replies. Do you think dad is going to give Johnny another dollar? Doubtfully!

Why should we give ‘Johnny Washington’ any more money when they are just going to give it to Jimmy or waste it in some other fashion? Why shouldn’t we INSIST that we stop the borrowing, use the funds at our disposal and do the things that need to be done to get the economy rolling, which would increase revenue (see second job example above!)?

If nothing else, the bean counters in Washington could pay the interest and divide the remaining dollars equally amongst the wasteful programs that are still in place. I know I don’t have a Harvard degree, but this sounds simple to me. Then the save-my-job crew in Washington doesn’t have to face the give-me-the-money crowd. They can tell all the folks that have their hands out, that they have no choice about cutting into their programs; the system could be completely mechanical.

I know, I know. The solutions above make sense, and normally things that make sense have no place in the nations capitol. Maybe we should just try this on for size for once!

I for one am exhausted hearing how the world is coming to an end if we don’t continue to make stupid decisions! Aren’t you?

My two cents; how ’bout yours?
