I must be stupid to think that our legislators could make decisions that make sense, huh? Everyday from both sides of the aisle we get BULLS**T, and we are supposed to believe it! I for one am very tired of this; how about you?
We are inches from falling off the financial cliff, and we have to listen to how ‘Ryan is dismantling Medicare’. First, he is not; second HE and the rest of the geniuses SHOULD! How can it make sense that we can insure everyone over the age of 65 with a limitless amount of coverage for as long as they live? Can you say ‘Unfunded Liability’? There is no financial model that can do what the Bleeding-Hearts wish Medicare to do; no financial model! Do we want to push Grandma over the cliff as a lefty video showed this weekend? OF COURSE NOT! But can we pay for everyone who lives in assisted living for 20-30 years at $4,000/week? In a Fantasy World maybe, but not in the real world.
Why can’t we come up with a plan that covers those that need REAL help, and let the rest of the population take care of themselves? Take care of themselves? That phrase is against the law I think; at least it is to the progressives! If these same lefties want to tax the rich, how about giving Medicare benefits based on financial need, not based solely on age; that would make sense wouldn’t it? Could it cost some useless legislators some votes; probably. SO WHAT?
The problem with making sense in Washington, is that we started giving out other peoples money so long ago, that the District is now addicted to it! Our Federal Government with its’ redundant programs sucking the life blood out of this country, is terrified to take away such important programs as ‘Cowboy Poetry (This one is for you Patrick!)’, or any other number of wasteful items due to fear that someone on the receiving end of the cash might not vote for them.
I hold so much anger for the wonderful leaders gone by that came up with Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, etc. Once we as a country started down this Nanny-State road, we never turned back.
The question comes to mind; why not us, why not now? Why not unravel all this crap, and work on a plan that eliminates or severely modifies all these entitlements and lets people stand on their own two feet? I can hear the liberals now; but what about these poor folks and those poor folks? SHUTUP!!! If we can use common sense to reduce these programs, get rid of duplication, and stop enabling so many to suckle on the nations teat, we will have plenty of revenue to help those that REALLY need help.
Nobody can argue with the idea of trying to help the down-trodden, but if we continue to be as STUPID as we have been, we will ALL be down-trodden, and forced to learn to speak Chinese!

Amen, brother. Now that we know O’Bama is Irish, & they seem to love him there, why don’t we let him run that country. The Irish just fixed up their economy by lowering taxes, especially on businesses. You know, the opposite of Barack Huissein O’Bama’s policies. In two years he could destroy that country!
Or maybe somewhere in The Middle East? He’s got the name for it and he could change the world! He could turn the Arab Spring in Arab Winter!
It’s tough to put in my 2 cents when you spell it out in your article. Nicely written again (except the part about C B poetry).
Thanks Pete.
Pete, Answer me this. I have been contributing (forcefully) to entitlements for the elderly for almost 40 years. I have worked hard and saved so maybe I don’t really need Social Security, Medicaid, or Medicare (theoretically). Are you suggesting that due to my thriftiness and saving habits that the money confiscated never sees the light of my day?
Pretty much; sorry to say. The question has got to be: ‘How can we offer unlimited benefits, with limited participation?’. Maybe the answer is, for those who can mostly take care of themselves, their benefit should never exceed their contributions, while the others fall into the medicaid category and get ‘Obamacare’ Style benefits. It isn’t easy ’cause the already blew most of the contributions. The reason the system is in trouble in the first place is that is was always a PONZI scheme. Now that more folks are retiring than working, Madoff has to go to jail, so to speak!
The sin of it all is not only what you contributed, but what your employer (you and me) contributed for years for all their employees. Talk about up in smoke!
